SHOOT FOR SEAMUS| St. Louis Children's Hospital| St. Louis Photographer

Yesterday I, along with 10 other local professional photographers, volunteers, and staff, had our annual SHOOT FOR SEAMUS event at St. Louis Children's Hospital.  Every year this is one of my favorite events and reminds me why I love being a photographer so much.  High School friend, Sharon Johnston and her husband, Tom, lost their sweet baby boy, Seamus 9 years ago.  Each year on the anniversary of his passing they bring lots of love to the NICU where Seamus spent 8 weeks after his premature birth.  I am beyond grateful to be a part of this day.  We photograph every baby and their familes in the NICU so they have precious memories and have a real first photo shoot.  Tiny Super Heroes also donated capes for these mighty little ones.  Here are some of the images from this special day.  xo

Michael's Challenge |St. Louis Photographer| Model | Inspiration

One of my goals for the year is to push myself out of my comfort zone.  Try new things.  Be creative more often.  Surround myself with creative, inspiring people.  So this weekend I grabbed Emily (who is 15 and is my good friend Rebecca's daughter) . and headed to our local Michaels Arts and Crafts store.  There is a challenge going around social media called #michaelschallenge--encouraging photographers to shoot good photos in poor locations.  So we did it.  And on the way home we stopped under a bridge, at a car wash and a Kentucky Fried Chicken.  I shot these for myself, for fun, for practice, for a challenge.  ENJOY!

Christmas Tree Bokeh |St. Louis Photographer

Want to know how to make Christmas tree heart bokeh?  Follow the easy, homemade way to create your own.

Chose a wide aperture (small number such as 1.8, 2.0, 2.8) and set your camera to manual focus.  Point the camera to the tree (further away is better) and instead of focusing on the tree, turn your focal ring until the tree is out of focus. This is what you will get.  

And this is what happens without the paper on the lens.
